1. National E-commerce policy conference.
Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, will chair the first meeting of the think tank on the Framework for National Policy on E-commerce to be held on April 24th, 2018.
The think tank has been established by the Department of Commerce.
Issues related to the e-commerce sector such as regulatory regime, taxation policy, data flows, FDI etc will be discussed.
2. E-way bill roll out in four more states from April 15.
The Centre stated that the e-way bill system for intra-state movement of goods will be rolled out in four more states and one Union Territory on 25th April.
The e-way bill system is being introduced in Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Sikkim, and in Puducherry.
The new system was implemented from April 15 in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
3. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA removed from Meghalaya.
The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA has been removed completely from Meghalaya.
The AFSPA act, empowers security forces to conduct operations and arrest anyone anywhere without prior notice.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the AFSPA has been reduced from 16 police stations areas bordering Assam to eight police stations.
4. Diu Smart City becomes first to run on 100% Renewable Energy during daytime.
Diu Smart City has become the first city in India, that runs on 100% renewable energy during daytime setting a new benchmark for other cities to become clean and green.
Diu had been importing 73% of its power from Gujarat until last year.
5. Manipur observes Khongjom Day.
Manipur on April 23 observed ‘Khongjom Day’ in commemoration of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.
The 1891 armed conflict was the last battle fought between the Kingdom of Manipur and the British Empire, wherein Manipur lost its sovereignty.
In commemoration of the historic battle, the Manipur government has been observing April 23 as ‘Khongjom Day’ every year.
6. Adilabad Dokra & Warangal Durries get Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
Adilabad Dokra, an ancient bell metal craft popular in the tribal regions of Adilabad district in Telangana, and Warangal Durries have been issued the Geographical Indication (GI) Registration Certificate by the GI Registry, Chennai.
GI tag can be used as a marketing tool to promote the products in India and abroad.
The Dokra craftsmen belong to the Woj community, called Wojaris.
7. Andhra Pradesh, Mastercard to host cyber security summit.
The Andhra Pradesh Government and Mastercard are together holding AP Cyber Security Summit.
The summit is being conducted here as a part of the MoU signed between the State Government and Mastercard to implement best practices in cyber security.
The partnership would help the state government to enable more robust digital payments solutions for the government’s Fintech Valley initiative.
8. India highest recipient of Remittances in 2017: World Bank.
India has retained top position as recipient of remittances with about $69 billion in 2017.
According to recently released Migration and Development Brief by World Bank.
India was followed by China ($64 billion), Philippines ($33 billion), Mexico ($31 billion), Nigeria ($22 billion) and Egypt ($20 billion).
9. India, UAE agreed to work together for harmonisation of skills.
India and the UAE have agreed to work together for harmonisation of skills that aims to match India’s programmes for upskilling workers with the requirements of job market in the Gulf nation.
This will help meet the skill demands of the UAE’s employers.
The two governments announced a partnership to strengthen the certification and joint recognition of skills.
10. EU, UN to co-host conference on Syria aid.
The EU and the UN will co-chair a two-day international conference in Brussels.
The aim of the conference is to pump financial aid for Syrians and garner political support for UN-led intra-Syrian talks.
The conference will bring together participants from more than 85 countries and organisations at the ministerial level.
It is the second confernce of its kind since 2017.
11. The Asian Development Bank to give Rs 1,700 crore aid to Uttarakhand.
The Asian Development Bank has agreed to give an aid of Rs 1,700 crore to Uttarakhand.
The aid will be given for the creation of infrastructural facilities, sewer treatment plants and water supply facilities in urban areas of Uttarakhand.
This was conveyed to Chief Minister of Uttrakhand by the country director of ADB’s India Regiment Mission.
12. Bank of India inks pact with National E-Governance Services (NeSL) for Information Utility
Bank of India has entered into an agreement with National E-Governance Services (NeSL) for Information Utility arrangement under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.
As per the agreement, BoI will avail NeSL service to expedite corporate insolvency resolution process.
In September 2017, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India registered NeSL as the first Information Utility.
13. Indian Oil Corporation signed pact with Haryana for cooking gas.
The Haryana government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Oil Corporation for setting up a biomethenation plant in Faridabad.
The plant will produce cooking gas and compost from organic waste.
The plant will also produce about four tonnes of compost per day from five tonnes of organic waste. This compost will be supplied to HSVP for parks.
14. Hindustan Copper Ltd & Manganese Ore (India) Ltd sign MoU for copper project.
Hindustan Copper Ltd has signed a MoU with Manganese Ore (India) Ltd for the Malanjkhand Copper Project.
As per the memorandum, MOIL will procure its entire requirement of silica sand, from HCL’s unit located at Malanjkhand in Balaghat District.
This sand will be suitable for road making, construction of building etc.
15. SAIL ties-up with AAI under UDAN.
SAIL and AAI have signed an MoU on utilisation of airstrips under the Regional Connectivity Scheme – UDAN.
SAIL have airstrips at its Rourkela (Odisha), Bokaro (Jharkhand) and Burnpur (West Bengal) steel plants.
AAI will operate and manage airport operations for Burnpur, Rourkela and Bokaro airport on behalf for SAIL.
The UDAN scheme has been launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
16. Rafael Nadal wins 31st Monte Carlo Masters Title.
Rafael Nadal (Spain) defeated Japan’s Kei Nishikori by 6-3, 6-2 in the Monte Carlo Masters final won his 31st Masters title.
It is also Nadal’s 11th Monte Carlo Masters title in 14 years.
