1. Startups with up to Rs. 10 crore to get concession.

The government has allowed startups to avail tax concession if total investment including funding from angel investors does not exceed Rs. 10 crore.
Several startups and investors had raised concerns over the ‘angel tax’ saying it could discourage investments.
The tax was levied on capital raised by startups in excess of the fair market value of their shares.

2. 5,000MW solar park to come up in Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR).

Gujarat Government approved setting up a 5000 MW capacity solar park at the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR).
It would be the largest such entity in the world after its completion.
The solar power generation project would be set up in 11,000 hectares of land.
The project will contribute significantly in achieving the target of producing 175 gigawatt of electricity by 2022.

3. President 3-Nation visit: completes final leg in Zambia, Returns India.

President Ram Nath Kovind has returned to New Delhi after three African nations tour of Equatorial Guinea, Swaziland and Zambia.
Mr Kovind and his Zambian counterpart Edgar Chagwa Lungu laid the foundation stone of Lusaka traffic Decongestion Project.

4. India top recipient of Commonwealth foreign direct investment (FDI).

India has emerged as the top recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI) from within the Commonwealth and is the second-most lucrative source of investment within the 53-member organisation after the UK, according to a new trade review.

5. World’s first long-distance electric bus line in Paris.

The world’s first long-distance electric bus line was inaugurated in Paris on 12th April.
The bus will cover the 160 kilometers.
It will run between Paris and Amiens in northern France in just over 2 hours.
The bus can travel as far as 250 kilometers on one 5-hour battery charge.
It emits no pollutants at all and creates less noise than conventional buses.

6. UN launches road safety trust fund.

The United Nations took a major step to address the tragedy of road accidents by launching the UN Road Safety Trust Fund.
The trust fund will support efforts along with the five pillars of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety.|
The UN General Assembly – the UN body with universal membership of all 193 Member States – adopted a resolution on road safety on 13th April.

7. second magnetic field created by Earth found.

The European Space Agency has created the most detailed map ever of the elusive oceanic magnetism generated by Earth’s lithosphere.
While Earth’s magnetic field is majorly generated within the outer core, a small fraction comes from magnetised rocks in the crust and the upper mantle.
This lithospheric magnetic field is 20,000 times weaker than global magnetic field at satellite altitude.

8. Jayant Sinha to head task force for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology.

The Government has formed a task force under the Chairmanship of MoS Civil Avaition Jayant Sinha for fast-tracking the roll-out of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle technology.
The Task Force will focus on R&D, acquisition and commercialisation, regulatory framework and preference for Make in India.
The task force will submit its report within 6 months of its constitution.

9. Siddharth Varadarajan Won Shorenstein Journalism Award.

Siddharth Varadarajan has won the Shorenstein Journalism Award.
Siddharth Varadarajan is the founding editor of The Wire.
The award, given annually by Stanford University’s Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center.
The award honours journalists who have “produced outstanding reporting on Asia and contributed significantly to Western understanding of the region”.

10. Bhanu Pratap Sharmaappointed Banks Board Bureau chairman.

The government appointed Bhanu Pratap Sharma as the new Chairman of Banks Board Bureau, which primarily recommends senior executive appointments in state-run banks.
Bhanu Pratap Sharma will replace former Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai.
Vinod Rai’s term ended on March 31.
Notably, Bhanu Pratap Sharma is the former Secretary of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

11. Boeing signs deal with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Mahindra at the Defence Expo 2018.

Boeing India has signed an agreement with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, and Mahindra Defence Systems at the Defence Expo 2018 to manufacture Super Hornet fighter aircraft in India.
The companies will manufacture F/A-18 Super Hornet for India’s armed forces.
The F/A-18 Super Hornet will deliver on India’s need for a carrier- and land- based multi-role fighter jets.

12. Discus thrower Seema Punia won silver medal at Commonwealth Games.

India’s Seema Punia bagged her fourth successive medal at the Commonwealth Games by winning silver in women’s discus throw final with a throw of 60.41m in Gold Coast.
The 34-year-old has now won three silver medals (2006, 2014 and 2018) and one bronze (2010) at the Games.
Another Indian athlete Navjeet Dhillon won bronze in the same event.

13. Indian wrestler Kiran won bronze medal at Commonwealth Games.

Indian wrestler Kiran bagged a bronze medal in the women’s Freestyle 76 kg event after finishing off Mauritius’ Katouskia Pariadhaven 10-0 in the first round itself at the Commonwealth Games.
Earlier in the day, Indian wrestlers had won two medals – one silver medal through Babita Phogat and a gold medal through Rahul Aware.

14. Wrestler and Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar won his 3rd straight Commonwealth Games gold.

Indian wrestler and Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar bagged his third straight Commonwealth Games gold medal after winning the men’s Freestyle 74 kg event.
The 34-year-old wrestler won the final 10-0, having dominated all previous opponents with scorelines of 11-0, 10-0, and 4-0.
Sushil has a silver and a bronze in Olympics and was crowned world champion in 2010.

15. Rahul Aware won India’s 1st wrestling gold at Commonwealth Games.

Rahul Aware bagged India’s first wrestling gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018.
He beat Canada’s Steven Takahashi in the final of men’s Freestyle 57 kg event.
Before the final, the 26-year-old had claimed two dominating victories with the scorelines 11-0 and 10-0.
He defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Bilal 12-8 in the semi-final.

16. Anish Bhanwala became India’s youngest gold medalist at Commonwealth Games.

Fifteen-year-old shooter Anish Bhanwala became India’s youngest gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games, winning the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Finals with a record score at Gold Coast.
India’s Neeraj Kumar stood fifth at the event.
Anish won gold at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney earlier this year.
Anish Bhanwala is participating in his first Commonwealth Games,

17. Tejaswini Sawant won gold at Commonwealth Games.

Tejaswini Sawant won India its fifth shooting gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, winning the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Finals in Gold Coast.
This was 37-year-old Tejaswini’s second medal at the 2018 edition, after winning silver at the women’s 50m Rifle Prone.
India’s Anjum Moudgil won silver at the event, after having topped qualification.

18. 65th National Film Awards announced.

The 65th National Film Awards were announced in Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi.
The chairpersons of the three juries (Feature, Non-feature and Writing) for the National Film Awards have announced the awards for the different categories.

19. Late Veteran Actor Vinod Khanna Awarded Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Veteran Hindi film actor Shri Vinod Khanna was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian Cinema.
