Following is the 5 April 2018 Current Affairs For Government Exam
1. HRD Ministry constitutes Committee to prevent exam paper leakages.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development has constituted a High Powered Committee to examine the entire system of conducting Class X and Class XII examination conducted by the CBSE with a view to prevent leakages.
Mr Vinay Sheel Oberoi, Retd. Secretary (Higher Education), MHRD will be the Chairperson of the 7 member High Power Committee.
2. Cabinet approves rightsizing the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
The Cabinet approved rightsizing of Competition Commission of India (CCI) by halving the number of its members to three.
CCI currently has one chairperson and six members. It will now have one chairperson and three members.
This would lead to “faster turnaround in hearings” that is expected to result in speedier approvals.
3. Cabinet approved Human Rights Bill, 2018.
The Union Cabinet approved the Protection of Human Rights (Amendments) Bill, 2018 for better protection and promotion of human rights in the country.
The Amendment will strengthen the Human Rights Institutions of India for the effective discharge of their mandates, roles and responsibilities.
It proposes to add a woman member in the composition of the human rights commission.
4. 3rd Annual Meeting of AIIB.
2nd lead-up Conference to 3rd Annual Meeting of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank on ‘Enhancing Port and Coastal Infrastructure’ was held in Visakhapatnam.
The Conference was organized by the Ministry of Finance, AIIB, CII and Research and Infrastructure System for Developing Countries.
The need for international funding for developing and maintaining inland waterways was discussed.
5. India becomes second largest manufacturer of crude steel.
According to Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI), India has overtaken Japan to become world’s second largest producer of crude steel in February 2018.
China is the largest producer of crude steel in the world, accounting for more than 50% of the production.
6. India ranked 3rd in facing most cyber threats.
India ranked third in the list of countries where the highest number of cyber threats were detected, and second in terms of targeted attacks in 2017, according to security software firm Symantec.
India was ranked second globally when it comes to spam and phishing (misleading emails, weblink etc).
Symmantec detected 133 targeted attacks in India which are the work of organised groups.
7. India, Azerbaijan ink two documents.
India and Azerbaijan have inked two documents for the visa waiver for diplomatic, official and service passports holders and cooperation between diplomatic training institutes.
The agreements were signed during the ongoing visit of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to that country.
Mrs Swaraj is there to be part of 18th NAM Ministerial Conference in Baku.
8. Agreement between India and Afghanistan.
Cabinet approved the agreement between Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock (MAIL), Afghanistan for cooperation in the field of food safety.
FSSAI and MAIL would establish a mechanism of information exchange and communication.
Areas of cooperation also include facilitating technical exchange on identified topics of interest.
9. Government clears India-Iran MoU for expert group.
The government gave an ex-post facto approval to an agreement with Iran to set up an expert group on trade remedy measures.
The MoU will establish a framework of cooperation in the area of trade remedial measures like anti-dumping and countervailing duty.
The pact was signed on February 17 this year during the visit of the President of Iran.
10. IndusInd Bank got RBI nod to acquire IL&FS.
Private sector lender IndusInd Bank has received RBI’s approval to buy the securities services arm of IL&FS.
In March 2017, the bank entered an agreement with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) to acquire 100% stake in ISSL.
Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) is the promoter shareholder of IL&FS Securities Services Ltd (ISSL).
11. SEBI eases trade rules in commodity exchanges.
To relax algorithm trading norms at commodity derivatives exchanges, SEBI raised the limit to process up to 100 orders per second by a user for such trade from the existing limit of 20 orders per second.
Algorithmic trading or ‘algo’ in market parlance refers to orders generated at a super-fast speed by use of advanced mathematical models.
‘Algo’ is used by large institutional investors.
12. Flipkart signed a pact with MakeMyTrip.
Flipkart and MakeMyTrip (MMT) have struck a partnership wherein the online retailer will start to sell travel services on its platform.
MakeMyTrip’s multiple brands, including MMT, Goibibo and redBus, will leverage the large customer base of Flipkart platform to drive online bookings in travel services.
The new partnership will start with domestic flight, hotels, bus and holidays bookings.
13. Mirabai won gold in women’s weightlifting.
Mirabai Chanu secured India’s first gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games when she finished first in the women’s 48 kg weightlifting event at Gold Coast.
Mirabai Chanu broke the Commonwealth Games’ weightlifting record by lifting 196 kg.
The previous Games’ record was 175 kg set by Augustine Nwaokolo of Nigeria in 2010.
This is her 2nd CWG medal following the silver she won in Glasgow.
14. Weight Lifter P.Gururaja won Silver medal.
Weightlifter P Gururaja opened India’s medal account on the first competition day of the 21st Commonwealth Games by winning the silver medal in Weightlifting.
In the 56 kilogram category, P Gururaja lifted a total weight of 249 kg to finish second in the event.
Malaysia took the Gold medal, while Sri Lanka got the Bronze medal.
15. Aussie boxer becomes first CWG 2018 medallist.
