1. Surat: First district to have 100% solar powered health centers.

Surat district in Gujarat become first in country to have 100% solar powered Primary Health Centers (PHCs).
All 52 PHCs in the district are now powered by solar system.
This initiative will not only bring down the electricity bill by 40 percent but also help fight global warming.

2. World’s oldest city Varanasi goes Wireless.

Eighty-six years after the city got electricity, overhead power cables in world’s oldest city ‘Varanasi ‘ is being dismantled after a project to lay underground lines over 16 sq-km has been finally completed.

3. Assam Chief Minister launched the ‘Mission Sambhav’ campaign.

Assam Chief Minister launched the ‘Mission Sambhav’ campaign, which aims at spreading the message of toilet construction in 33 districts of the state.
The central theme of the campaign is to reach out to more than one lakh families without a toilet, on a single day.
The scheme aims to promote mass mobilisation through public representatives, local units of security forces, NGOs, and colleges.

4. The Supreme Court (SC) proposed roll out of Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) fuel.

The Supreme Court (SC) proposed a roll out of Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) fuel across 13 metros by April 1, 2019.
The measure is expected to help tackle the problem of air pollution in Delhi by reducing vehicular emissions and improving fuel efficiency.
The decision to go directly from BS-IV to BS-VI is in line with the Prime Minister’s commitment at @COP21 to cut carbon emissions.

5. Jet Airways makes Guwahati its regional gateway of the North-East.

Jet Airways has announced plans to expand its operations in the northeast and make Guwahati its regional gateway of the region.
Jet Airways has increased the number of weekly flights between the northeast and the rest of the country to 184.
Jet Airways has introduced non-stop services to Aizawl, Jorhat and Silchar.

6. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) signs MoU with Assam government.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) signed a MoU with Assam government under its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) initiative for sustainable development of human settlements at villages in Kamrup district.
The AAI would provide financial assistance under its CSR initiative for the Kamrup district.
The AAI through its CSR policy supports such initiatives for promoting infrastructure.

7. “E-Tribes India” Launched.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India’s (TRIFED) websites-www.tribesindia.com, www.trifed.in.
Retail Inventory Software and M-commerce app was also launched.
TRIFED has developed its own website i.e., tribesindia.com for sale of all its products and to tap m-commerce.
‘Tribes India’ Banners at Amazon, Snapdeal, Paytm & GeM will be launched.

8. 3R – ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ forum in Indore.

India will host the 8th “3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Regional Forum in Asia and the Pacific” in its cleanest city, Indore from 9-12 April 2018.
The forum has provided a platform for addressing the needs and priorities of 3R in Asian countries and sharing best practices in waste management.
The “Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific” was launched in 2009 in Tokyo, Japan.

9. India ranks 109th globally in mobile download speeds.

India, the largest consumer of mobile data in the world, ranks 109th when it comes to mobile Internet download speeds According to Ookla’s Speedtest index.
Norway is positioned at the top with an average download speed of 62.07 mbps.

With a production of 1,423 BU in FY 2016, India was the 3rd largest producer and the third largest consumer of electricity in the world, behind China and the United States.

12. Asia’s largest tulip garden in Srinagar opens.

Kashmir’s Tulip Garden in Srinagar was opend on March 25.
The garden is situated on the foothills of Zabarwan range in Srinagar.
The garden was conceived, conceptualized and created by then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad, in 2006-07.
In 2014, it was declared as the 2nd best tulip garden in the world by World Tulip Summit Society.

13. Vijay Raghavan as Scientific Adviser.

Krishnaswamy Vijay Raghavan was appointed Principle Scientific Adviser to the government of India. Vijay Raghavan was serving as secretary of the Department of Biotechnology since January 2013.
Vijay Raghavan will succeed physicist Rajagopala Chidambaram.

14. Anushka Sharma & PV Sindhu debut in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2018 list.

Bollywood actress-producer Anushka Sharma and Badminton Ace P V Sindhu had featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2018 list.
Anushka, one of Indian film industry’s highest paid actresses, is all of 29.
Pakistani singer Momina Mustehsan too found a mention.

15. Manu Bhaker-Anmol wins air pistol mixed gold.

Manu Bhaker and Anmol secured the gold medal in the ISSF Junior World Cup by winning the mixed 10m air pistol event.
The silver and bronze medals were both awarded to China.
Genemat Sekhon bagged an individual bronze medal in the junior women’s shooting.
Overall, India occupied the second placed with 17 medals, including seven gold.

16. Anish Bhanwala won gold in Shooting at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney.

Anish Bhanwala secured an individual gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney.
India is now placed second in the overall standings with 15 medals, comprising 6 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze.
China secured the gold medal and set a new junior world record with 1733 points.

17. Belarus beauty wins Miss Supermodel Worldwide 2018 title.

Aleksandra Liashkova from Belarus was crowned Miss Supermodel Worldwide 2018 at a grand finale in Gurugram, Haryana.
India’s Shweta Parmar was awarded Miss Congeniality.

18. SACF receives Frederick Pincott Award.

South Asian Cinema Foundation (SACF), has received the Frederick Pincott Award for 2017 from the Indian High Commissioner for promoting Hindi cinema in Britain.
The institution has been active in boosting original research and books on Indian films.
SACF’s have made documentaries like “Beyond Partition”, “Niranjan Pal” and “Indo-British Cinematic Encounters”.
