1. NCERT launches dedicated portal for CBSE books.
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) decided to supply the required number of textbooks to all Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Discussing the issue of publishing and providing textbooks with the CBSE, NCERT has launched a dedicated web portal (www.ncertbooks.ncert.gov.in).
The details of such (895) vendors have been uploaded on the NCERT website for the convenience of the schools and parents.
The NCERT has not received any reports regarding scarcity of textbooks from schools or students so far.
Thirteen States and Union Territories have taken copyright permission from for printing of NCERT Textbooks for their respective States and Union Territories.
Ten States and Union Territories are procuring the Textbooks directly from the board.
2. Maharashtra bans plastic bags.
The Maharashtra government has imposed a complete ban on plastic carry bags and thermocol cutlery.
Maharashtra has become the 18th state of the country to impose such ban.
The state government has given traders, manufacturers and even consumers a time period of one month to dispose of the banned items in their possession.
3. Indian Railway encompass 90 stations revamping in world class transit hub.
Redevelopment and renovation have always helped in encompassing an image that elaborates new creativity and innovation.
The Indian Railway has been keen on welcoming changes and revamping the railway stations that will be made feasible for the passengers.
The Indian Railways sights to convert stations into world-class ‘airport-like’ transit hubs The Railway Ministry has decided to redevelop 90 railway stations into world-class transit hubs.
4. Navy Warship INS Ganga Decommissioned In Mumbai.
INS Ganga, an indigenously built frigate of the Indian Navy, was decommissioned in Mumbai after over three decades of service.
It was Commissioned in December 1985, the ship represented a big step forward in the nation’s warship building capability.
The special guest of honor for the ceremony was Vice Admiral (Retd) K K Kohli, the first Commanding Officer of INS Ganga.
5. Chhattisgarh bags ‘Water Digest Award’ for best water conservation and irrigation facility.
Chhattisgarh bagged the National ‘Water Digest Award’ for Water Conservation-Diversion and for increasing the irrigation capacity in the State.
This is the first time that Chhattisgarh Water Resources Department had been given national Award during the past 17 years.
The Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Ram Megwal presented the award to Chhattisgarh Water Resources Department Secretary Sonmani Bora.
The Award is presented every year by the globally renowned magazine ‘Water Digest’-which focuses mainly on water resources.
Chhattisgarh State bagged the award for increasing the irrigation capacity, community participation, water management -water diversion, water conservation, efforts towards inter-linking of rivers, better techniques utilized in irrigation facilities.
6. Karnataka state government pitches for Chief Secretary Ratna Prabhas extension.
In order to ensure the hassle-free administrative engagements during state assembly elections, Karnataka government pitched for the extension of Chief Secretary Ratna Prabha K.
Siddaramaiah has sought the three-month extension for the incumbent Chief Secretary.
Ratna Prabha will be completing her tenure on March 31. Centre’s Department of Personnel and Training will take the final call on Karnataka’s plea.
According to media reports, 1982 batch officer who is serving in Ministry of Social Welfare is in the race for the top post along with S K Pattanayak Secretary to Union Ministry of Agriculture.
Ratna Prabha had played a pivotal role in the successful organization of the Invest Karnataka Summit in 2016.
A 1981 IAS officer was serving as Additional Chief Secretary before her elevation.
In 1999 and 2000, she received the ‘Woman of the Year’ award from the American Biographical Institute Inc, USA.
7. Odisha signed MoU with British Council.
Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the British Council to strengthen educational and cultural cooperation.
The MoU was signed on the occasion of British Council’s 70 years presence in India.
It aims at strengthening cooperation in a number of fields including English skill education, sports, cultural exchange and investment promotion.
8. Pakistan gets first woman opposition leader.
Pakistani lawmaker Sherry Rehman made history by becoming the first woman Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
Rehman of Pakistan Peoples Party was declared as the Leader of the Opposition after she secured support of majority 34 opposition senators in the house of 104.
She has served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the US from 2011 to 2013 and was elected to the Senate in 2015.
9. UCO Bank to merge branches in Hong Kong.
Following RBI’s ban on letters of undertaking, UCO Bank is planning to merge its two branches in Hong Kong.
The ban on LoUs has affected the business of foreign branches & the bank says one branch is enough to cater for customers’ needs.
With almost zero capital needed for opening a branch in Hong Kong, the country has the 2nd highest number of foreign branches by Indian banks after the UK.
10. HDFC Bank Signs MoU with Government e-Marketplace.
Private sector lender HDFC Bank signed an agreement with the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) under which the bank will facilitate a host of services to the public procurement portal for Central and state government organisations.
The MoU is significant as Government e-marketplace will bring transparency and efficiency in the procurement process with assured and timely payment to the sellers.
11. Equitas Bank ties up with CSK.
Equitas Small Finance Bank has launched a new ‘Yellow Army Savings Account’ to increase its customer base through its association with Chennai Super Kings.
The yellow army savings account will offer an interest rate of 6% per annum for balance below ₹10 lakh and 6.5% per annum for balance above ₹10 lakh.
Equitas will be the principal sponsor of CSK and the banking partner of CSK for 3 years.
12. Yuki Bhambri defeats Mirza Basic to cruise into Miami Open tennis second round.
Ace Indian tennis player Yuki Bhambri moved to the second round of Miami Open after beating Bosnia’s Mirza Basic 7-5, 6-3.
The Indian Davis Cupper will now face world number 11 and eighth seed American Jack Sock in the next round.
This will be the first meeting between the two after 2013 when Bhambri had beaten Sock in a Challenger event.
Yuki, ranked 107 had qualified for the ATP 1000 series main draw with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Sweden’s Elias Ymer in the second and final qualifying round.
Yuki, of late, has created excellent results against top players as he registered the biggest win of his career, shocked world number 12 Lucas Pouille in the second round of Indian Wells Masters.
13. Ball Tampering Scandal.
Australian skipper Steve Smith & batsman Cameron Bancroft have admitted to charges of ball-tampering during the 3rd day of the third Test match against South Africa in Cape Town.
Bancroft was caught on television cameras appearing to rub a yellow object on the ball during the match.
Australia captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner have decided to relinquish their leadership duties
14. Fastest fifty for India in women’s T20 cricket.
Smriti Mandhana created history after smashing the fastest fifty by an Indian player in women’s T20I cricket.
Mandhana, who was opening the innings for India, achieved the feat in just 25 balls bettering her previous best in 30 balls.
The overall record for the fastest fifty in women’s T20Is belongs to Sophie Devine (18 balls) of New Zealand.
15. Pankaj Advani retained his Asian title.
Pankaj Advani defended his Asian Billiards Championships title in by demolishing his partner B Bhaskar 6-1.
With this win, Advani remains the reigning Indian, Asian & world champion in billiards for 2017-18.
This is Advani’s 11th gold medal at Asian level of cue sports.
His continental billiards title tally has gone up to 7, in addition to back-to-back Asian Games gold medals in 2006 & 2010
16. Cricket returns to Karachi.
Pakistan’s biggest city ‘Karachi’ will stage a high-profile cricket match for the first time in nine years.
The Pakistan Super League final will be held amid heavy security at a newly renovated National Stadium in Karachi.
Karachi last saw a major game with international players in Feb 2009 when the terrorists attacked the Sri Lanka team bus injuring 6 members of the Sri Lanka team.
17. Vettel won Australian Grand Prix.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel pipped the defending Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton to win the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
It was the 100th podium of Vettel’s career and it came in his 200th Formula One race.
He becomes the fourth driver to claim 100 podium finishes, joining Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and Alain Prost.
18. Joginder Sanger won Business Personality award.
Joginder Sanger, a leading NRI entrepreneur has won the ‘Business Personality of the year 2018’ award in the UK.
He awarded for showing a high level of commitment and enthusiasm in leading his business to success.
Sanger is the chairman of Mastcraft Group and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Sanger had played a key role in raising funds for rebuilding the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s building in the UK.
