1. Central Governement approves Capital Investment Subsidy of Rs 264.67 Cr for NE industrial units.
The union government approved capital investment subsidy amounting to Rs 264.67 Crore to four industrial units located in North East, including Sikkim.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The grant of subsidy to the industrial units will not only provide incentives to the operational units but also boost the confidence of existing investors as well as potential investors in North Eastern Region (NER).
The four industrial units are located in North East including Sikkim.
The subsidy has been granted under the Central Capital Investment Subsidy Scheme (CCISS), 2007 of the North East Industrial Investment and Promotion Policy (NEIIPP), 2007.
The union government of India has been implementing this scheme to promote industrialization in the North East.
2. India’s first Tesla car regstered in Mumbai.
India’s first Tesla was registered at the Tardeo Regional Transport Office (RTO).
The Model X car, is owned by the business conglomerate Essar’s CEO Prashant Ruia and is reportedly exempted from RTO taxes as it is an electric vehicle.
The SUV (sports utility vehicle) is also the 16th electric vehicle registered in Mumbai during the current financial year.
3. Union Government Rs 2,600 Crores package for leather industry; generates 3.24 lakh jobs in three years.
The Delhi Government approved a Rs 2,600Crores special package for employment generation in the leather and footwear sector.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi in Delhi.
The package has the potential to generate 3.24 lakh new jobs in 3 years and assist in the formalisation of 2 lakh jobs as cumulative impact in footwear, leather and accessories sector.
The package involves implementation of central scheme ‘Indian Footwear, Leather and Accessories Development Programme’, with an expenditure of Rs 2,600 crore during 2017-18 to 2019-20.
4. Eastern India’s first CNG stations.
Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated eastern India’s first compressed natural gas stations for scooters in Bhubaneswar.
The CNG stations are part of GAIL’s Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga and City Gas Distribution (CGD) projects in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Earlier, CNG for scooter and three wheelers were available only in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune.
5. Indo-Maldives joint military exercise.
8th edition of Indo-Maldives joint military exercise, ‘Ekuverin’ has began at the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC-Belagavi).
Focus of this exercise is to enhance interoperability b/w the two forces for counter-terrorist operations in semi urban environment.
The exercise is being carried out by Sirmoor Rifles of Indian Army & Marine troops of Maldives National Defence Force.
6. WHO certifies Gabon as polio free.
World Health Organisation has declared Gabon a polio-free country, given the lack of new reported or suspected cases in the country.
Now the disease is endemic only in Afghanistan & Pakistan, where WHO recorded 4 cases this year
Polio is a viral disease which mainly affects young children & can result in permanent paralysis.
There is no cure & it can only be prevented through immunisation.
7. Women to drive trucks, bikes in Saudi.
After allowing women to drive, Saudi Arabia has now permitted females to drive trucks and ride bikes.
Women involved in road accidents or who commit traffic violations will be dealt with at special centres that will be established and run by women.
Saudi Arabia was the only country in the world where women were barred from receiving a driver’s license.
8. Merger of Dish TV and Videocon d2h.
Dish TV has received the final approval from the government for closing its merger with Videocon d2h, the DTH arm of Videocon Industries Ltd.
The new entity will called Dish TV Videocon Limited. The combined entity will serve more than 29 million subscribers.
Dish TV is currently the market leader with a 24% share followed by Tata Sky with a 23% market share.
9. UIDAI suspends Airtel eKYC licence.
UIDAI has temporarily barred Airtel & Airtel Payment Bank from conducting Aadhaar-based SIM verification of mobile customers using eKYC process.
The action follows allegations of Airtel using Aadhaar-eKYC to open payments bank accounts of its subscribers without their informed consent.
UIDAI also objected to allegations about such accounts being linked to receive LPG subsidies.
10. Vodafone India appoints Dawar as its CFO.
Vodafone India has appointed Manish Dawar as its Chief Financial Officer with effect from January 1, 2018.
Dawar will replace Thomas Reisten, who after completing a 4 year stint with Vodafone India, will be moving to a new senior role within the Vodafone Group.
He will report to Sunil Sood, MD and CEO, Vodafone India.
Dawar joins Vodafone from Den Networks Limited where he was Group CFO.
11. 10 golds at Wrestling Championship.
India won 10 gold and as many silver medals on the first day of the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in South Africa’s Johannesburg.
The India Greco Roman style wrestling team that represented the nation at the championship won gold and silver medals in all 10 weight categories.
Male team who won gold medal include Rajender Kumar in 55 kg, Manish in 60 kg, while Naveen won gold in 130 kg.
12. FIFA bans head of Brazilian football federation.
FIFA suspended the head of the Brazilian football federation Marco Polo Del Nero for 90 days over a breach of its rules.
FIFA ethics committee, in a statement, said the decision bans Del Nero from any football-related activities during this period.
The duration of the ban may be extended for an additional period not exceeding 45 days.
The 76-year-old Del Nero was accused of accepting a 6.5 million euro commission.
In the wake of these accusations, the ethics committee opened an inquiry that led to his suspension
13. International Wheelchair Cricket Tournament.
The first ever International Wheelchair Cricket Tournament has commenced in Nepal’s Kathmandu.
The tournament has participation of teams from Nepal, India & Bangladesh.
Tournament is supported by Sushil Koirala Memorial Foundation & technical assistance from Kathmandu Cricket Training Center.
The first ever series of Wheel Chair competition will conclude with the final match b/w Nepal & Bangladesh
14. Joy Goswami to get 31st Moortidevi Award.
Eminent Bengali poet Joy Goswami will be given the 31st Moortidevi Award for the year 2017.
Committee, headed by poet and scholar Satya Vrat Shastri, unanimously decided to confer the award upon Goswami for his poetry collection titled Du Dondo Phowara Matro.
It is the first time the award will be given to a Bengali poet.
